The Union Maintenance Technician role at DuBois is a vital position responsible for a wide range of maintenance, repair, and improvement activities. This role operates in the second shift from Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, offering a balanced work schedule for individuals who seek evening hours. The Maintenance Technician works across several disciplines including plumbing, carpentry, painting, machine and equipment servicing, welding, electrical systems, HVAC, security, utilities, fire protection, pollution control, grounds maintenance, and various improvement projects.

In this position, the technician is responsible for maintaining compliance with international standards and adhering to federal, state, and local regulations, which demonstrate DuBois' commitment to safety and environmental protection. Continuous improvement is a key element of the role, encouraging employees to participate in activities that enhance safety, product quality, and operational efficiency. The technician also supports workplace organization and clean work practices to create an orderly and safe working environment.

Daily responsibilities include inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining lighting, electrical, electro-mechanical equipment, pollution control systems, and HVAC systems according to established safety guidelines. The role requires handling electrical and electronic replacement parts, pumps, motors, filters, and fluids. Additionally, the technician performs safety inspections, documents findings, conducts corrective measures, and maintains safety equipment. Wastewater treatment, waste disposal, and recycling areas must be kept clean and organized in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

This job also involves minor grounds maintenance and seasonal tasks such as light snow removal and yard care. Operating overhead gantry cranes, powered industrial lift equipment, and various hand and power tools are part of the daily routine. The technician may also contribute to facility remodeling and renovation, including moving equipment and performing construction-related work. Fabrication of tooling, fixtures, and equipment is occasionally required to support production operations.

The technician works closely with maintenance helpers and outside contractors, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Ongoing professional development is encouraged through training events, courses, seminars, and workshops to keep skills current. Other duties include operating sit-down forklifts, performing preventative maintenance, maintaining logs and plant data, and reporting safety issues to supervisors. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues are essential for success in this role.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, 3-5 years training or equivalent education and experience, ability to conduct safety inspections and corrective actions, ability to maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations, physical ability to perform grounds maintenance, ability to operate power and hand tools, commitment to attend training and professional development, ability to work second shift hours, capability to maintain daily operational logs, strong interpersonal skills for teamwork, compliance with all PPE requirements, ability to follow WHMIS and safety procedures

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years related experience, experience with industrial electric including PLC, Motor Controls, 480 Volt and 3 phase, ability to read and interpret technical documents, ability to write routine reports, mathematical skills including fractions and decimals, problem-solving skills with limited standardization, ability to interpret written and oral instructions, proficiency with Microsoft business applications, experience with various welding methods, qualifications for powered industrial truck and overhead crane operation, previous experience in manufacturing or distribution facility, forklift operation experience, effective collaboration skills, strong communication and time management
