Job Description
The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and River Market are prominent city venues managed by the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, offering a dynamic gathering place for a variety of public and private events. These venues are well-known for hosting a diverse range of activities including concerts, festivals, farmers' markets, and special events that serve the local community and visitors alike. The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, an outdoor performance space, provides an exceptional setting for both large and intimate events, combining state-of-the-art audio-visual capabilities with a welcoming environment. The River Market, on the other hand, is a vibrant hub for local farmers and artisans, offering community members access to fresh, local produce and handmade goods throughout the market season.
The role available is a key administrative and client relations position designed to support the management and operational staff at both the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and River Market. This position requires a multifaceted approach to secretarial, administrative, and clerical functions necessary for smooth venue operations. The incumbent will serve as the initial point of contact for the public, managing telephone and email communications for over 150 events annually, assisting walk-in customers with venue tours, and acting as a liaison between diverse groups including event clients, government agencies, vendors, farmers, musicians, and community organizations.
A significant part of the job involves event planning and coordination where the individual develops detailed plans and layouts for custom events, facilitates referrals to third-party vendors, and ensures compliance with venue policies, safety regulations, and contractual agreements. This role entails maintaining meticulous records of vendors and caterers, overseeing market activities with approximately 50 farmers' markets per year, and supporting logistical aspects such as security, catering, and setup services.
Given the wide scope of responsibilities, the successful candidate will be adept at handling various office technologies from computers and phones to audio-visual equipment, actively manage inventory for the farmers' market, and administer payments including cash handling and electronic benefit transactions. The job includes working a flexible schedule that covers evenings and weekends, reflecting event timings and market needs.
Moreover, this position demands proactive outreach and marketing skills such as generating original social media content to promote events and create brand awareness for private event rentals and public markets. The role also encompasses community engagement through networking, attending trade shows, serving on committees, and building relationships with musicians, schools, and nonprofit organizations to enhance entertainment and educational programming.
Physical demands of the job require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and assist with setting up venues, emphasizing the need for a candidate who is physically capable and comfortable with moderate physical activity alongside their administrative duties. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to perform under stressful conditions, and capacity to work independently with minimal supervision are essential.
This is a vital position for the effective operation and continued success of the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and River Market, offering a rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to community engagement and the enhancement of public space utilization in Tuscaloosa. While specific salary details are not provided, the role is typically classified within municipal government employment, suggesting competitive compensation and benefits aligned with City of Tuscaloosa standards.
