Penske Truck Leasing is a leading global provider of transportation services, offering innovative solutions in logistics, truck leasing, and fleet management. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske operates across multiple locations including the facility at 1164 E. 156th Street, Bronx, NY, which serves as a key hub for their vehicle transportation operations. Established to deliver high-quality service and dependable transportation solutions, Penske Truck Leasing is dedicated to supporting businesses and individuals by enabling efficient movement of goods and vehicles across various regions. The company fosters a culture of safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction, reflecting its strong reputation in the transportation industry.
The role available is for a Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver), a unique position within Penske’s operational framework responsible for the delivery and pickup of vehicles including box trucks up to 26 feet and, for those with a CDL Class A license, tractor-trailer combos. This position is particularly suited for individuals holding a CDL Class B or CDL Class A license who are interested in part-time, flexible work schedules ranging from 0 to 25 hours per week based on business demand. Classified as a casual or on-call part-time position, the Hiker role offers supplemental income opportunities for professional drivers looking to balance work with other commitments. Located in the Bronx, NY, this position emphasizes vehicle safety, timely deliveries, and customer-oriented service while adhering to strict regulatory standards governed by the Department of Transportation.
As a Hiker at Penske, responsibilities include ensuring the mechanical and safety condition of vehicles before transport, following safety protocols while driving to Penske or customer locations, and obtaining proper documentation such as receipts or signatures upon delivery. Additionally, the role supports the service department by transporting parts and equipment when necessary, contributing to various other projects assigned by supervisors. The position demands vigilance and compliance with DOT regulations, including maintaining a driver qualification file with up-to-date medical and safety records, passing drug screenings, and possessing strong communication skills in English, which is essential for safety and legal compliance.
Overall, this position combines the practical skills of a professional commercial driver with the responsibility of fleet management and customer service, offering a dynamic and engaging work environment. Penske prioritizes the health and safety of its associates and provides reasonable accommodations to enable all individuals to meet the physical demands of the role, which include regular lifting, constant alertness, and safe vehicle operation. The company stands as an equal opportunity employer dedicated to inclusivity and diversity within its workforce, ensuring fair employment practices across all demographics. Compensation for this role is competitive, set at $20.75 hourly, reflecting the specialized nature of the responsibilities and the importance Penske places on skilled drivers. Candidates choosing this position will join a respected transportation leader, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the efficient delivery of essential transportation services.
