Their commitment to innovation and quality makes them a trusted partner in logistics and transportation worldwide.
This particular opportunity is based in Stockton, California, and is ideal for individuals seeking a flexible, part-time driving position. The role of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) focuses primarily on the delivery and return of vehicles to Penske locations and customer sites. The vehicles handled range from box trucks up to 26 feet in length to tractors and trailers for those holding a CDL Class A license. Additionally, this position may involve assisting the service department by delivering parts and equipment when necessary. The job is classified as a casual or on-call part-time job, providing supplemental income for licensed CDL Class B or Class A drivers who desire flexible work schedules between 0 to 25 hours a week depending on business needs.
The position emphasizes adherence to safety procedures while driving, including routine vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in proper working order. Drivers will also be responsible for obtaining delivery receipts, managing payments when applicable, and promptly reporting any vehicle defects, accidents, or violations. Complying with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and maintaining a current driver qualification file are critical components of this role, which includes passing physicals, drug screenings, and background checks.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently with good customer service and organizational skills, showcasing a positive and professional attitude throughout their engagements. The physical demands of the job require the capacity to legally operate a motor vehicle safely, including frequently entering and exiting vehicles and lifting items up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional lifts of up to 100 pounds. The work schedule is Wednesday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., offering a consistent but flexible work rhythm. Compensation is competitive at $23.00 per hour for Class A CDL holders.
