Job Description
Penske Truck Leasing/Transportation Solutions is a premier global transportation provider that specializes in delivering essential and innovative transportation, logistics, and technology services. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske is recognized for its commitment to customer success and operational excellence. The company supports businesses and individuals by ensuring efficient and reliable movement of goods through its vast network and fleet of vehicles. Penske's dedication to quality service and safety standards has established it as a leader in the transportation and logistics industry. Penske Truck Leasing operates across multiple regions in the United States, offering a variety of driving, leasing, and transportation-related opportunities to qualified applicants.
This particular role is for a Hiker, also known as a Vehicle Transporter or Truck Driver, based at the Amarillo, Texas location. This on-call, casual part-time truck driving position is ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers who are seeking supplemental income and the flexibility to work anywhere from zero to 25 hours per week depending on business needs. The position mainly involves the delivery and return of Penske vehicles including box trucks up to 26 feet in length, and for those holding a CDL Class A license, operating tractors and trailers is also part of the duties.
The Hiker/Vehicle Transporter plays a pivotal role in maintaining smooth vehicle logistics by moving trucks between Penske locations and customer sites. The job also involves assisting the service department with deliveries of parts and equipment when needed. Candidates must be available to work during daytime hours, offering them considerable scheduling flexibility. Responsibilities require strict adherence to safety protocols while driving, thorough inspection of the vehicles for mechanical and safety compliance before operation, and accurate handling of delivery documentation and payments.
In addition to driving duties, the position mandates compliance with Department of Transportation regulations, including maintenance of a current driver qualification file, successful completion of CDL physicals, drug screenings, and safety performance monitoring. The role demands a high level of responsibility, alertness, and safety consciousness to ensure the wellbeing of the driver and others on the road.
Physically, the job requires the ability to frequently move, stand, walk, sit, and use hands for handling vehicle equipment and deliveries. Drivers must also be able to lift and move loads up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds, while performing tasks such as entering and exiting vehicles and cargo areas safely. Penske emphasizes equal opportunity employment and supports accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
Overall, this role is an excellent fit for professional drivers who have experience and a clean driving record, seek flexible part-time work, and want to be part of a leading transportation solutions company focused on excellence and customer satisfaction. Candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to Penske's reputation for safe, efficient vehicle transportation and support company operations at a critical level.
