Job Description

Penske Truck Leasing/Transportation Solutions is a leading global transportation provider offering innovative transportation, logistics, and technology services. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske is known for its dedication to operational excellence and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. With a long-standing reputation in the transportation industry, Penske supports businesses and individuals by helping them move goods and services efficiently across various locations. The company emphasizes safety, reliability, and professionalism, making it a sought-after employer for seasoned transportation professionals as well as newcomers looking to grow their careers. This prestigious firm operates an extensive fleet of vehicles including box trucks, heavy-duty tractors, and trailers, servicing diverse industries with an emphasis on outstanding service delivery and customer care.

The Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) position at Penske Truck Leasing/Transportation Solutions is a vital and unique role primarily focused on the delivery and return of vehicles to various Penske locations and customer sites. This role involves moving a range of equipment, including box trucks up to 26 feet in length, with opportunities for CDL Class A licensed drivers to operate tractors and trailers. Offering a casual, on-call part-time work schedule, this position suits CDL Class B or A licensed drivers who are seeking supplemental income, providing work hours ranging from zero to 25 per week depending on business demand. The working schedule is typically Tuesday through Saturday during the day shift. Drivers in this role may also support service department activities by delivering parts and equipment as necessary.

The job requires meticulous adherence to safety and operational protocols. Drivers are responsible for checking vehicles to ensure mechanical and safety equipment are in working order, securing receipts or signatures upon delivery, and reporting any vehicle defects, accidents, or traffic violations to supervisors. Attention to detail and a proactive approach to vehicle safety and customer service are essential. The position demands strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a professional, positive attitude. Compliance with Department of Transportation regulations is mandatory, including maintaining a driver qualification file with up-to-date records, regular physical examinations, and ongoing safety performance evaluations. Background checks and drug screenings are required prerequisites to employment.

Physically, the role requires the ability to see and hear clearly, as well as the capability to frequently move, stand, walk, and sit. Drivers must often use their hands to handle goods and vehicle controls, and have the strength to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Safe, legal operation of motor vehicles and the ability to enter and exit vehicles and cargo areas safely are essential for the position.

This opportunity at Penske offers a chance to be part of an industry leader focused on growth, safety, and service excellence. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Penske fosters a diverse and inclusive workforce encouraging applicants from all backgrounds to apply. The position is based primarily in Katy, Texas, with the physical address at 29335 Highway Blvd. This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexible, part-time work with the potential to grow within a reputable and widely respected company in the transportation sector.
