Job Description
Penske Truck Leasing is a global leader in transportation solutions, committed to providing essential and innovative services to meet the dynamic needs of its customers. Headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, Penske Truck Leasing operates with a focus on excellence and customer success, serving a vast clientele across various industries. As a premier transportation provider, the company offers a wide range of services including truck leasing, logistics, and technology solutions that help businesses optimize their transportation operations efficiently and reliably. Penske Truck Leasing is known for its strong dedication to safety, quality, and customer service, making it a trusted partner for companies that depend on timely and secure vehicle delivery and transportation services.
The role of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) at Penske Truck Leasing, based at the Rochester, NY facility, is a unique and essential position designed to support the company's vehicle transportation operations. This casual, on-call part-time job is ideal for CDL Class B or Class A licensed drivers seeking supplemental income, offering flexible hours ranging from zero to 25 hours per week depending on business demand. This position involves the delivery and return of vehicles, primarily managing the movement of box trucks up to 26 feet in length. For drivers holding a CDL Class A license, the responsibility extends to moving tractors and trailers as well.
The Hiker role demands a high level of safety and compliance with federal transportation regulations, including the maintenance of a driver qualification file that undergoes annual checks for physical fitness, motor vehicle records, drug screening, and safety performance history. The driver will follow strict safety protocols when operating vehicles, ensure mechanical and safety equipment are in good working order, and be vigilant in reporting any defects, accidents, or violations. Additional duties may include assisting the service department by delivering parts and equipment, obtaining signatures or receipts for delivered goods, and collecting payments when necessary.
This position requires a combination of practical driving experience, keen attention to vehicle safety details, and excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and a positive attitude, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing schedules and travel requirements. Physical demands include frequent movement, the ability to lift heavy items up to 100 pounds, and safe operation of vehicles with frequent entry and exit. Penske Truck Leasing ensures that reasonable accommodations can be made to support associates with disabilities.
In sum, the Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver position presents a flexible employment opportunity within a reputable and dynamic company. Penske Truck Leasing offers a competitive hourly wage between $18.00 and $18.50, emphasizing safety, responsibility, and customer satisfaction in all aspects of the role. This position is well-suited for drivers who seek supplemental part-time work that allows a balance between personal life and professional responsibilities while contributing to the efficient operation of a leading transportation provider.
