Currently, Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Driver to join their team on a full-time basis. The role comes with a competitive pay starting at $23.00 per hour and offers numerous benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement fund, and professional development opportunities. This vehicle operator will be responsible for the safe collection, transportation, and delivery of donated goods, processed merchandise, and other materials essential to the organization’s operations. The Driver must strictly adhere to safety policies, utilize all required personal protective equipment, and maintain daily vehicle maintenance checks to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.

In this role, the Driver will serve as a crucial link between donors and the Goodwill stores and processing centers. Safeguarding donated goods from damage while handling and during shipment is a significant priority. Additionally, the Driver will assist with the unloading of merchandise, ensuring minimal damage to donated materials, while continuously providing courteous and effective customer service. The position requires excellent communication skills for interacting with a diverse customer base and resolving or escalating concerns when necessary. The Driver will also be tasked with following all federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertinent to commercial driving, maintaining consistent attendance, and potentially working overtime to complete assignments.

Job Requirements

  • Possession of valid Class C CA driver license with a clean record
  • Minimum 2 years commercial driving experience
  • Has a California DMV record that is no more than 30 days old
  • Must have a current Motor Vehicle Record with no citation convictions other than parking within past 3 years
  • Has a Department of Transportation medical card
  • Must be able to read maps and communicate using Goodwill issued radio or phone equipment
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT drug test
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Available to work weekends and early mornings
  • Must respect and have knowledge of diverse cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups
  • Must be able to lift minimum 25 lbs

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Safely operates a vehicle to collect, transport and/or deliver donations, processed merchandise and materials
  • Safeguards donated goods to prevent damage during shipment
  • Assists with unloading of merchandise, minimizing damage to donated materials
  • Acts courteously, handles customer concerns and resolves or escalates when necessary
  • Follows all established policies, procedures and legal regulations
  • Performs daily vehicle maintenance checks
  • Ensures daily work requirements are met, maintaining quality and quantity performance
  • May be required to work overtime to complete assigned tasks
  • Responsible for following and ensuring all safety rules are complied with and appropriate safety equipment is used
  • Unloads vehicles and moves items as required
  • Provides basic direction to Truck Helper, when applicable
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned
