We are currently seeking dedicated Drivers with an Hourly CDL-A license to join our team in Ypsilanti, MI. This full-time company driver role offers a competitive salary range between $70,000 and $75,000 per year, coupled with a $7,000 sign-on bonus. Our drivers work an average of 12-14 hours per shift during a four-day workweek from Monday to Friday, with dispatching occurring between 3 pm and 5 pm. The position is located at 2085 E. Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti, MI 48198.

The Driver, Hourly CDL-A role is crucial within the company as it plays a vital part in the country’s food supply chain. Drivers not only ensure timely and safe delivery of food and food-service products to customers, but they also serve as the face of Core-Mark, building lasting relationships that reflect the company’s values of professionalism and customer satisfaction. The duties encompass operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road, shuttle, and overnight deliveries.

Responsibilities include performing all required safety inspections according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations; ensuring proper loading, unloading, and securing of freight; accurately completing all necessary paperwork; managing customer interactions with professionalism; and maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment and vehicles. Drivers must adhere strictly to DOT regulations and company safety policies while delivering superior customer service. The ability to operate equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates is also important for handling product cases of varying sizes and weights. Additionally, drivers will complete regular hours of service logs in accordance with federal, state, and company policies.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum six months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet applicable state licensing and certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for last three years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Current DOT health card or ability to obtain one
  • Ability to hand-lift up to 90 pounds and use related equipment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Six or more months of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past three years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card or be able to secure one
  • Ability to hand-lift and use two-wheeler, lift gate, and other equipment to move and stack product cases
  • Ability to handle product cases ranging from 10 to 90 pounds depending on location

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre and post-trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
  • Report all safety hazards immediately
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and verify customer invoices
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as necessary
  • Drive and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route and schedule
  • Unload products and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks and communicate with supervisors as needed
  • Verify delivery with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect payments where required
  • Load customer returns on trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are locked and secured
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily hours of service records and log according to federal and state regulations
  • Maintain cleanliness of tractor, loading dock area, and trailers
  • Secure equipment and complete paperwork at end of shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
