The role of a Driver, Hourly CDL-A at Core-Mark encompasses vital responsibilities within the nation's food supply chain. These full-time company drivers play a crucial part in delivering food and food service products, ensuring each shipment arrives safely, on time, and in excellent condition. The position offers competitive compensation ranging from $70,000 to $75,000 annually, alongside a $7,000 sign-on bonus and a four-day workweek, with shifts averaging 12 to 14 hours between Monday and Friday. The dispatch window typically falls between 3 pm and 5 pm, based at the Ypsilanti, MI location.
As the face of Core-Mark, drivers not only maintain logistical excellence but also foster lasting relationships with customers through courteous and professional interactions. Responsibilities include operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes such as local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop assignments. Adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, as well as company safety policies, is paramount, as drivers perform comprehensive pre and post-trip inspections, ensure freight is properly loaded and secured, and complete all necessary paperwork with accuracy and legibility.
Day-to-day duties include delivering orders according to set schedules, unloading and transporting items to designated customer storage areas, handling damage control, verifying orders with customers, and securing tractor, trailer, and freight when not in transit. Drivers are also responsible for unloading returns and damaged goods, maintaining clean and orderly vehicles and loading dock areas, and recording hours of service in compliance with federal, state, and company guidelines. This position requires physical capability to lift and move product cases typically weighing from 10 to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 to 90 pounds depending on the location.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- 6+ months commercial driving experience
- Valid CDL-A license
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attain or have valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Perform count check of items and check customer invoices of products that have been loaded
- Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
- Unload products from trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
- Perform damage control checks on items and contact supervisor about removing orders according to policy
- Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
- Collect money where required
- Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
- Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
- Unload all equipment, materials and remove trash from trailers as required
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean
- Secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork at end of shift
- Perform other related duties as assigned
