The company is renowned for its inclusive work culture, emphasizing safety, respect, recognition, and professional growth. This dedication to its workforce and customers has positioned Core-Mark as a reliable partner within the food supply chain.
The role of Hourly CDL-A Driver at Core-Mark is a vital position contributing directly to the efficiency and reliability of America's food service and supply chain. Drivers employed by Core-Mark play an essential role in ensuring that food and related products are delivered swiftly and safely, thus maintaining the integrity and quality of the product from the distribution center to the end customer. This full-time position is based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and offers a competitive pay scale ranging between $70,000 to $75,000 annually, accompanied by a $7,000 sign-on bonus. The work schedule is designed to support work-life balance, consisting of a four-day workweek with typical shifts running 12 to 14 hours, primarily scheduled between Monday to Friday with dispatch times between 3 pm and 5 pm.
Drivers are tasked with operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes, which include over-the-road (OTR), local, shuttle, overnight, and drive and drop routes within both interstate and intrastate territories. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver and unload food and food service products securely and on time while maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role demands professionalism, excellent communication skills, and the ability to foster lasting customer relationships, as drivers serve as the direct representatives of Core-Mark’s commitment to service excellence.
The position includes routine safety inspections of vehicles and trailers, adherence to DOT driving regulations and company safety policies, as well as comprehensive documentation and record-keeping duties related to freight inventories and delivery confirmation. Drivers must perform physical tasks such as hand-lifting, utilizing equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to handle freight ranging from 10 to 90 pounds. Engagement with customers involves verifying deliveries, collecting payments where applicable, and managing freight returns and damaged goods efficiently.
Core-Mark places high value on safety and continuous training, requiring drivers to maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Report, pass various tests including drug screenings and background checks, and have or be able to obtain a valid DOT Health Card. The company fosters a culture of reward and respect, offering numerous benefits including health and wellness programs starting from day one, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off.
