The CDL-A Driver position at Core-Mark, based in Eau Claire, WI, offers an attractive opportunity for professional drivers seeking a stable, rewarding role with competitive pay and excellent benefits. This full-time position features a schedule of Monday through Friday, with weekends off, and dispatch begins early at 4:30 a.m., enabling drivers to maintain a balanced work-life routine. In their role, CDL-A Drivers are responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and food-related products safely and on time to various customers. These deliveries include intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers must adhere strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, performing comprehensive safety checks and inspections before, during, and after trips. This position demands professionalism in interactions with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring questions are addressed accurately and promptly.

Drivers also manage the loading and unloading of products, verify deliveries with proper documentation and customer signatures, and handle returns and damaged goods appropriately. They are tasked with maintaining accurate records, including hours of service logs compliant with federal and state requirements. Attention to detail and responsibility for the safety and security of freight and equipment are paramount. The role also includes performing routine housekeeping duties to keep equipment and working areas clean and operational.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months tractor/trailer experience
  • valid CDL-A
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass road test
  • attain or have valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • inspects equipment to meet company safety standards and reports safety issues or required repairs
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and verifies customer invoices accurately
  • moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedules
  • unloads products and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • performs damage control checks and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • verifies delivery with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • collects money where required
  • loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • unloads damaged goods and completes necessary paperwork
  • completes daily records of hours of service and logs in accordance with federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas and keeps trailers clean and clear
  • performs other related duties as assigned
