The Driver - SCM role at Core-Mark is an essential position that supports the company’s mission to efficiently deliver food and food-related products in a timely and safe manner. This position offers a minimum weekly pay of $1250 with potential earnings of $65,000 or more annually, reflecting the critical contribution drivers make in sustaining America’s food distribution system. The role is classified as full-time, with a Monday to Friday schedule and early morning dispatch between 3:00am and 6:00am, offering employees the advantage of local routes and being home nightly, alongside weekends off.

The Driver - SCM is responsible for operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes, including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. The selected individual plays a fundamental role in transporting food products to various customers, ensuring all delivery requirements are met with exemplary standards of safety and professionalism. Drivers engage directly with customers, vendors, and coworkers, communicating effectively to resolve inquiries and maintain optimal service levels.

Safety compliance is paramount in this role, with drivers conducting all mandatory pre-trip and post-trip inspections in line with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and reporting any safety concerns or necessary repairs promptly. The position also involves ensuring all freight is properly loaded, secured, and documented, conducting accurate count checks, and completing paperwork related to shipments meticulously. The role extends to handling unloading duties, damage control, and managing customer returns to maintain product quality and operational efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial tractor/trailer experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • must be 21+ years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • attain or have valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
  • able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • perform all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • report all safety issues and repairs required
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately report all safety hazards
  • inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • perform count check of items and check customer invoices of loaded products
  • check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly
  • move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • unload products from trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas
  • perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • collect money where required
  • load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keep trailers clear and clean
  • complete daily record of hours of service and enter log in accordance with DOT requirements
  • perform other related duties as assigned
