Job Description
Core-Mark, a Performance Food Group company, is an industry-leading distributor specializing in fresh and broad-line solutions to the convenience retail sector. As part of a Fortune 150 company, Core-Mark has developed a strong reputation for empowering its customers, employees, and communities, contributing to over $23 billion in annual revenue. With distribution centers across the United States and Canada, Core-Mark offers a comprehensive range of products, programs, and solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of its clients in the convenience retail market. Known for its commitment to safety, inclusivity, and employee growth, Core-Mark provides a workplace culture that values rewards, recognition, and respect.
The Driver - SCM position at Core-Mark is critical to supporting America’s food distribution system by ensuring timely and safe delivery of food and related products. This role involves operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive and drop assignments. The position offers competitive pay, with drivers having the potential to earn up to $70,000 or more annually, supplemented by monthly bonuses that can reach $1,625. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, with early morning dispatch times ranging from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM.
In this role, the driver will be responsible for performing thorough safety inspections of their vehicles in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. This includes pre-trip and post-trip checks to ensure all equipment is in proper working order and meets safety guidelines. Drivers must report any safety issues or needed repairs promptly to maintain the highest level of operational safety.
The driver is expected to deliver excellent customer service by communicating professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Responsibilities include verifying loads, completing accurate paperwork, and ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured on the trailer before setting out on delivery routes. Drivers are required to follow predetermined delivery schedules and unload products into designated customer storage areas while performing damage control checks and obtaining customer signatures upon delivery.
This position demands physical capability to hand-lift and operate equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move and stack product cases. Product weights generally range from 10 to 90 pounds, depending on the location. Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, trailers, and loading dock areas also falls under the driver’s responsibilities. At the end of each shift, drivers must secure all equipment and complete necessary documentation.
Core-Mark prioritizes safety and compliance with federal, state, and company policies. Drivers must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years, pass drug tests, criminal background checks, and road tests, and hold a valid CDL-A license. They must also possess or obtain a current DOT Health Card to be eligible for the role. This position offers a safe and inclusive work environment where growth opportunities abound for those dedicated to performing essential work in the food distribution industry.
