Job Description
The hiring establishment is a church that actively engages with its community through various events, services, and activities. As a place of worship and community gathering, the church maintains several properties and facilities that require consistent upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all members, visitors, staff, and officers. This church prides itself on fostering a respectful, supportive atmosphere and values the contributions of its employees in maintaining the overall aesthetics and functionality of its grounds. It operates in a structured manner under the supervision of a Maintenance Supervisor and emphasizes the importance of teamwork, safety, and effective communication within its workforce.
The role being offered is for a Custodian position that works directly under the Maintenance Supervisor or an authorized designee. This full-time position plays a vital part in the daily operations of the church by ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of its facilities. Custodians are responsible for daily cleaning tasks, upkeep of floors, restrooms, offices, classrooms, and common areas, and maintaining necessary supplies across the church’s premises. Beyond cleaning, the role includes groundskeeping duties such as snow removal and debris clearing from lawns and parking lots. The Custodian will also manage emergency maintenance requests that arise, contributing to a safe and orderly environment.
Additionally, the Custodian supports the church’s event space maintenance by arranging furniture and equipment to facilitate meetings, classes, and special events. The position involves assistance with maintenance projects, ensuring room setups meet required standards for safety and efficiency, and documenting activity through written reports, logs, or repair status updates. Meeting participation for training and development is encouraged to improve performance and stay current with required practices.
The church seeks individuals who display strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate reliability and dedication. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to handle lifting and standing for extended periods, and entails wearing protective clothing and gloves to adhere to health and safety regulations. Confidentiality is paramount in this role, and employees must uphold privacy standards at all times. The Custodian role is a hands-on position essential to the smooth functioning of the church’s operational environment, requiring a balance of general cleaning, event preparation, and maintenance duties in a supportive community setting. The church offers a work schedule that accommodates both full-time and part-time hours, with the expectation that custodians will be available to work weekends and holidays as needed. This ensures coverage during all major activities and events, underscoring the importance of flexibility and commitment in this role.
