The Parks & Recreation Department plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life in Hollister by managing and preserving its many parks, recreational facilities, and green spaces. This department is dedicated to fostering community engagement and promoting environmental stewardship through the upkeep of public parks and natural areas. The City of Hollister operates with a commitment to equity and inclusiveness, providing employment opportunities to a diverse workforce and maintaining a supportive and collaborative workplace culture. The City values professionalism, dedication, and skilled craftsmanship in all its employees, especially those in service roles that interact directly with the public and the natural environment.
The Parks Division within the Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a full-time, permanent Tree Trimmer to join its dedicated team. This position offers an annual salary range of $67,742.48 to $82,341.22. The anticipated start date for this role is after July 1, 2026, pending City Council budget approval for the fiscal year 26/27. Prospective candidates will benefit from the opportunity to work in a fulfilling outdoor role that involves hands-on tree care and maintenance to support the city’s green infrastructure. The Tree Trimmer will be vital in maintaining the health, safety, and aesthetic appeal of publicly-owned trees throughout the city.
As a Tree Trimmer in the City of Hollister, you will perform specialized duties including tree trimming, pruning, removal, planting, pest management, and root care. Your role is essential for maintaining the structural integrity and biological health of the city’s urban forest. You will be trained and expected to operate various tree care equipment such as aerial lifts, chippers, stump routers, water trucks, and other mechanical and hand tools essential to the trade. Safety and compliance with occupational health guidelines are integral to daily operations, ensuring not only the protection of trees but also of operators and the public.
The role demands physical ability and technical competency to manually climb and work at heights, execute advanced pruning techniques, and respond effectively to emergency storm-related tree work. Regular communication with the public regarding ongoing tree work will also be part of your duties, combining technical skill with customer service. This role does not include supervision of full-time staff but may involve overseeing part-time or seasonal workers. The City of Hollister encourages individuals with prior experience or relevant certifications in arboriculture to apply, fostering growth within the position.
Working as a Tree Trimmer in Hollister offers an exceptional chance to contribute to community well-being and environmental sustainability. You will be an instrumental part of a team that ensures Hollister’s parks and streetscapes remain safe, attractive, and ecologically balanced for all to enjoy. The City's emphasis on equal opportunity and a supportive work environment makes this a promising career path for those passionate about urban forestry and public service.
