Job Description

St. Luke's University Health Network is a renowned healthcare organization dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality medical care to the communities it serves. Known for its unwavering commitment to excellence, St. Luke's excels in caring for the sick and injured, educating healthcare professionals, and improving access to healthcare for all patients regardless of their financial situation. This organization values its employees as its most valuable asset, recognizing their skills, experience, and compassion as crucial to fulfilling its mission.

Within this highly respected network, the role of Team Leader in Food and Nutrition Services is vital to maintaining the standards of excellence St. Luke's is known for. This position leads and supervises the daily operations of food service activities, including overseeing food servers, dish machine operators, food handlers, cashiers, caterers, and clinical aides. The Team Leader ensures that all food preparation, delivery, sanitation, and customer service standards are upheld according to the established policies and procedures. This role demands a proactive, organized individual capable of managing personnel assignments effectively to cover tray line, cafeteria, patient service, and sanitation roles with properly trained staff.

The Team Leader is tasked with addressing staffing challenges effectively, such as covering shorthanded areas economically while adhering to guidelines. They maintain meticulous documentation of employee attendance, performance issues, and ensure corrective measures when necessary. Close attention to detail is essential in this role, as the Team Leader must verify that all serving equipment functions correctly, food temperatures meet department standards, and stations are well-stocked to support smooth meal service operations.

Handling special diet orders with precision, the Team Leader approves substitutions and monitors meal service adherence to quality standards, ensuring timely delivery and presentation of food. They also play a key role in maintaining a clean, sanitized, and safe food service environment by checking tray line and cafeteria stations before breaks and shifts end and ensuring proper cleaning and restocking of dishes and utensils.

Physically, the role requires endurance and mobility, involving walking for extended periods, standing and sitting intermittently, and performing tasks that require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds. Sensory requirements include the ability to hear normal conversations and possess good general, far, and peripheral vision.

This position is scheduled with the expectation to work every other weekend and holidays, emphasizing the need for reliability and flexibility. Candidates will benefit from previous supervisory experience in food service, although it is not mandatory, and a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Effective communication skills in English are essential.

St. Luke's encourages applicants to complete their applications thoroughly, including accurate employment histories and current legal names and addresses. Uploading a detailed resume that outlines work history, education, certifications, and licenses is highly recommended. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, St. Luke's University Health Network fosters a supportive and inclusive workplace culture dedicated to professional development and outstanding patient care.
