We are currently seeking a Traveling Field and Laboratory Technician to join our growing team based in Katy, Texas. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a highly specialized laboratory environment performing thermal and geotechnical testing services that are not commonly available with many companies in the industry. This position requires a strong foundation in soil sciences with an eagerness to gain advanced technical expertise through extensive hands-on training and participation in diverse projects nationwide. The role combines both laboratory and field responsibilities, emphasizing accurate testing, data processing, and direct client communication.
As a Traveling Field and Laboratory Technician, you will conduct essential tests on soils, aggregates, and construction materials, including Standard and Modified Proctor testing, sieve analyses, soil classifications, and visual inspections. You will be responsible for maintaining equipment, managing data integrity, and ensuring compliance with quality control and safety protocols. Additionally, this position requires travel across the United States approximately every three weeks with a Monday to Friday schedule, typically spending 2-3 days in the field per assignment. Travel accommodations including airfare, lodging, per diem, and transportation are covered, supporting your ability to focus on delivering excellence onsite.
Candidates should bring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities to work closely with laboratory management, senior technicians, and clients. Physical requirements include the capability to stand for long periods, lift 35-75 pounds, and work safely in varied environmental conditions such as wetlands, construction zones, and other rugged terrains. Job Requirements

- associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or related field preferred
- 0-3 years of construction materials testing or related experience
- commitment to workplace safety and proper use of PPE
- basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Field Data Collection software
- ability to read and interpret technical documents

Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent
- associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or a related field preferred
- 0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical laboratory work, or a related field
- commitment to workplace safety following OSHA, company, and laboratory safety protocols
- basic computer proficiency with experience in Microsoft Office and Field Data Collection software preferred
- ability to read, write, and interpret procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports
- mathematical skills sufficient for calculations in various units of measure
- effective verbal and written communication skills
- strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills

Job Duties
- perform laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, and related construction materials
- conduct standard and modified Proctor testing
- perform sieve analyses and particle size determinations
- classify soils in accordance with industry standards
- process, document, and prepare testing data and reports
- communicate testing results with Laboratory Management and project stakeholders
- maintain laboratory equipment and testing tools
- follow established quality control and safety procedures
- travel throughout the United States to support project testing activities
- perform field testing and sample collection as needed
- work alongside senior technicians during initial training assignments
- represent Geotherm professionally while interacting with clients and project teams
