Job Requirements
- One year of recent experience as a Histotechnologist or Histology Technician
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Proficiency in PC skills
- Ability to remain in a stationary position and move about while handling equipment
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing 50-100 pounds
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel and demonstrate professionalism
- Ability to perform fine motor skills related to the job
- Ability to cope with frequent public contact and meet deadlines under pressure
- Visual acuity and effective communication skills
Job Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a Histotechnologist or Histology Technician
- Valid license when needed in compliance with any state regulations
- National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as AMT, AAB, HEW certifications preferred
- Other certifications or licenses may be required for this position
Job Duties
- Receive, process, and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination
- Accurately differentiate between normal, reactive, infectious, and malignant cellular changes
- Perform embedding, cutting, staining, and slide preparation using specialized histology techniques
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, and automated staining machines
- Verify specimen accuracy and ensure proper labeling and documentation
- Follow quality control protocols to maintain consistency and reliability in slide preparation
- Assist pathologists and laboratory staff by preparing slides for special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures
- Maintain compliance with laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
