The current opening is for a Travel Histotechnologist (HTL) / Histology Technician (HT) Generalist position located in Chicago, Illinois. This role is a 13-week travel assignment offering competitive weekly pay ranging from $1,634 to $1,878. The shift schedule is five days a week, eight hours per day during daytime hours. The position entails preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination to assist pathologists in diagnosing diseases. As a histotechnologist or histology technician, the candidate will be responsible for embedding, sectioning, staining, and preparing high-quality slides using specialized techniques. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to laboratory safety and quality protocols, and proficiency in operating laboratory equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and automated staining machines.

Job Duties

  • Receive, process, and prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination
  • accurately differentiate between normal, reactive, infectious, and malignant cellular changes
  • perform embedding, cutting, staining, and slide preparation using specialized histology techniques
  • operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microtomes, tissue processors, and automated staining machines
  • verify specimen accuracy and ensure proper labeling and documentation
  • follow quality control protocols to maintain consistency and reliability in slide preparation
  • assist pathologists and laboratory staff by preparing slides for special stains and immunohistochemistry procedures
  • maintain compliance with laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirements
  • perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
