Key responsibilities include coordinating trauma patient reviews, facilitating the Trauma Mortality and Morbidity (M&M) quality review process, and ensuring trauma care adherence to national and state standards. The Trauma Program Coordinator also leads performance improvement initiatives and patient safety plans, aiming to optimize clinical outcomes through data-driven strategies and process enhancements. This role involves preparing the trauma program for accreditation assessments such as those conducted by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), as well as state health department designations.

Additionally, the Coordinator manages trauma services personnel, including registrars, performance improvement coordinators, and outreach staff, ensuring alignment with program goals. The role requires collaboration with hospital leadership to develop and maintain trauma-specific policies, protocols, and guidelines. Budget management related to the trauma program’s financial and operational needs is another crucial aspect of this position.

The Trauma Program Coordinator plays an essential part in education and outreach initiatives. This includes facilitating trauma-specific training programs like TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support), and ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses) for nursing and ancillary staff, as well as coordinating community injury prevention and public education efforts. Furthermore, the coordinator oversees the trauma registry, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting for quality monitoring and regulatory compliance.

This role demands a high degree of independence, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), active RN licensure in Georgia, and at least 3-5 years of nursing experience, specifically in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing. Previous experience with trauma center designation and reverification processes is highly desirable.
