Job Description
Baker Commodities Inc. is a well-established private company with over 80 years of history in the rendering and manufacturing industry. With strategically located manufacturing facilities across the United States, Baker Commodities provides high-quality products and services to a global clientele. The company takes pride in its outstanding employees whose dedication to quality, service, innovation, and integrity has solidified Baker Commodities as one of the world’s premier rendering companies. As a company grounded in tradition yet focused on continuous improvement and growth, Baker Commodities values its workforce and fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment. We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer ensuring that all qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
We are currently seeking a responsible and safety-conscious Commercial Vehicle Driver to join our team. This role will play a crucial part in the safe and timely collection, transportation, and delivery of company products using specialized commercial vehicles. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule, starting early in the morning from 1:00 am to 9:30 am. Compensation is competitive, offering $28.50 per hour for Class B drivers and $29.50 per hour for Class A drivers. Along with competitive pay, the company provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer contributions, paid holidays, vacation, and sick time, as well as company-sponsored life insurance and short- and long-term disability plans. We also offer pet insurance as an added employee benefit.
In this role, the driver is responsible for checking their vehicle to ensure that all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in optimal condition before starting their routes. The driver collects and verifies delivery instructions, follows designated routes, plans and adjusts routes based on changing conditions to maximize fuel efficiency, and communicates effectively with supervisors and other contacts via GPS navigation and radios. Drivers maintain thorough logs adhering to federal and state regulations, recording critical data such as working hours, vehicle service, fuel consumption, and mileage. The ability to load and unload trucks using specialized equipment and to perform additional duties as assigned is essential to this role. Staying punctual and maintaining regular attendance is critical for the smooth operation of the company. The position requires the ability to work overtime and flexible schedules as necessary, reflecting the dynamic needs of the logistics operation.
Candidates must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card. Compliance with federal regulations requires drivers to be at least 21 years old. Depending on the assigned vehicle, endorsements such as tanker and doubles are required. The role demands at least two years of commercial vehicle driving experience with an acceptable driving record. Candidates with less experience may need to complete an Entry Level Driver program. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and proficiency in reading and speaking English is necessary to follow DOT and FMCSA regulations. Physical demands include frequent seated operation using arms and legs to control the vehicle, as well as the ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 60 pounds. The environment may expose drivers to outdoor weather and occasional materials requiring personal protective equipment.
This opportunity is ideal for dependable individuals who thrive in a safety-focused, structured workplace and enjoy playing an essential role in ensuring products reach their destinations efficiently and securely. Baker Commodities offers a stable employment opportunity with growth potential within a company that values its people and the service they provide to customers worldwide.
