Job Duties
- Determines the needs for vehicle pick-up and/or deliveries route daily
- maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions following signals from loading crew and checking vehicle and loading equipment positioning
- collect delivery instructions, verifying routes and instructions
- maintain logs of working hours or vehicle service/repair status following state and federal regulations
- report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage
- secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers
- drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and comply with state regulations
- obtain receipts or signatures for delivered vehicles and collect payments when required
- follow safety procedures for vehicle transportation
- perform basic vehicle maintenance such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid and minor repairs
- check trailer conditions after unloading for damage
- read and interpret maps to determine routes
- load and unload trucks or assist others, using special loading equipment
- inspect loads, ensuring cargo security
- perform emergency roadside repairs including changing tires or installing light bulbs
- collaborate with other drivers in team trips
- plan or adjust routes using GPS and other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption
