Job Description
The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township (MSDWT) is a well-established educational institution located in the northern section of Indianapolis. MSDWT is currently seeking a dedicated Transportation Receptionist - AM to join their team at the Transportation Center. This role is classified as hourly, non-exempt, offering a competitive salary of $16.00 per hour with a work schedule from 5:30 am to 2:30 pm, including a one-hour unpaid lunch. The position follows the school calendar year, encompassing 205 working days. The Transportation Receptionist will operate under the supervision of the Director of Transportation and play a vital role as the first point of contact for the Transportation Department.
The key responsibilities include maintaining clear and professional communication with callers, drivers, school employees, and the general public to facilitate smooth operations and diplomatic resolution of inquiries. The receptionist will assist with radio communications, help prepare transportation-related projects, maintain essential office filing systems, and support the Special Needs Coordinator by assigning Bus Assistants when necessary. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with transportation leadership on various tasks to ensure efficient department functioning.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a preference for candidates who have post-secondary education, computer experience, and familiarity with student transportation functions. Excellent customer service skills, strict confidentiality, and proficient communication abilities are essential to succeed in this role. The physical demands include the ability to work at a desk for extended periods, some occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, and operating office equipment frequently.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two years office experience
- Ability to communicate professionally with diverse groups
- Customer service orientation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willingness to be cross-trained in transportation software and procedures
- Ability to perform clerical duties including filing and ordering supplies
- Physical ability to lift 25 pounds occasionally
- Availability to work scheduled hours from 5:30 am to 2:30 pm
Job Qualifications

- Two years of office or business experience

- Experience with transportation or school business functions preferred
Job Duties
- Foster good communication and diplomatic resolutions as a first contact between the Transportation Department and callers including drivers, school employees, and the public
- Assist with radio calls as needed
- Become cross-trained in other transportation areas including GPS and software applications
- Maintain a file system for all bus seating charts
- Order office supplies for the transportation office
- Assist in preparation of transportation-related projects such as mass mailings, copying, and document research
- Assist the Special Needs Coordinator in assigning Bus Assistants to routes
- Assist Directors with communication of school messages for late buses
- Communicate daily with schools and administration regarding route and student changes
- Perform other duties as assigned by Transportation leadership
