The Manager of Transportation role at US Foods is a critical leadership position focused on managing the Transportation department with a strong emphasis on people, safety, service, and cost efficiency. This role entails overseeing daily outbound shipments to customers and internal distribution centers to ensure safety, accuracy, timeliness, and profitability. The transportation operations manager will lead by example, promoting a safety-first culture, coaching and training drivers and transportation associates on policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and other safety standards. With a direct responsibility for managing union and non-union drivers, this role requires robust leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to handle operational challenges, maintain productivity, assist in workforce development, and enhance operational efficiencies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building high-performing teams, collaborating with senior management on performance evaluations and development plans, and fostering an environment of open communication and motivation. Key aspects of the role include conducting safety and driver meetings, managing accident investigations, scheduling work shifts effectively using planning tools such as Microsoft Excel, and continuously working to improve processes by identifying waste and implementing cost-effective solutions. The Manager of Transportation will also interact extensively with internal customers across departments such as sales and warehouse operations, and externally with clients to ensure seamless delivery experiences.

This position requires a mix of office and field work, involving significant time on the road and direct interaction with drivers while maintaining an active presence in the office environment. The role involves physical activities like standing, walking, driving, lifting, carrying, and other moderate physical demands as part of its routine functions. US Foods offers a competitive salary range typically between $71,000 and $110,000 depending on experience and location, along with potential incentive compensation.
