Job Description

The hiring company is a dynamic organization focused on delivering efficient and effective transportation and logistics solutions. With an emphasis on maintaining smooth operations within the Regional Distribution Centers (RDCs), this company plays a pivotal role in supply chain management and transportation logistics. Its commitment to operational excellence and safety standards positions it as a leader in warehouse and transportation services. The organization values skilled leadership and strategic oversight to ensure all elements of yard activities and transportation operations are executed seamlessly.

The role in question is for a Yard Manager, responsible for overseeing all RDC yard activities and managing the personnel involved in these functions. This includes maintaining detailed and accurate operational records, coordinating with various stakeholders such as transportation directors, supervisors, and warehouse teams, and resolving issues that could impact inbound and outbound performance. The Yard Manager supervises up to nine staff members, including Transportation Supervisors, Leads, and Operational Associates, providing leadership, guidance, and performance evaluation to ensure optimal productivity and compliance with company policies.

This full-time position requires a flexible work schedule capable of accommodating shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on RDC operational needs. The Yard Manager must have a comprehensive understanding of transportation and logistics processes, safety protocols, and the ability to manage yard operations including yard jockey activities. The role demands strong communication skills, organizational capabilities, problem-solving aptitude, and leadership qualities to develop and coordinate personnel effectively while maintaining a safe working environment.

In addition to operational oversight, the Yard Manager is tasked with resolving system and transportation issues, monitoring carrier and system statuses, and ensuring smooth communication between transportation teams and warehouse operations. The position also encompasses hiring, training, developing, and disciplining personnel as necessary, aligning with company policies on conduct and operational standards.

This role is ideal for a motivated individual with at least a high school diploma or GED, with preferred qualifications including a bachelor’s degree in a related field and prior experience in transportation logistics or operations. Basic computer literacy and knowledge of transportation regulations and logistics operations will support the individual’s success in this role. Physical demands include the ability to lift and move moderate weights and undertake routine physical activities in an environment exposed to varying weather conditions and mechanical equipment noise.

Overall, the Yard Manager is a critical position that supports the backbone of the company’s transportation and warehouse operations, ensuring that the RDC yard runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements and company standards. This opportunity allows experienced professionals to contribute significantly to logistics excellence, operational reliability, and team leadership within a well-established and respected organization.
