The position available is for a Transportation Engineer (Roadway/Traffic) within Michael Baker International's dynamic and growing Phoenix, Arizona transportation practice. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who possesses a comprehensive background in roadway and traffic design specific to Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) as well as municipal projects. The candidate will find themselves working on a variety of high-profile and complex projects, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across various regions to deliver quality infrastructure solutions on schedule. This job offers a hybrid work environment with remote options available for candidates who already have experience operating within the Phoenix market, providing flexibility to balance work commitments with personal needs.

The core responsibilities include leading and supporting roadway and traffic design efforts, preparing and reviewing detailed plans for roadway geometry, traffic signing, striping, and traffic signals. The role requires development and delivery of engineering designs using advanced tools such as OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD. Candidates must excel in managing multiple projects simultaneously without compromising attention to detail, quality, or deadlines. They will be involved in client interactions, technical meetings, and coordination with public agency stakeholders, contributing to problem-solving processes and developing innovative design solutions that cater to diverse project scopes.

Ideal candidates will bring a background supported by either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, and possessing or working towards professional certifications like Engineer in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineer (PE) licenses, preferably in Arizona. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in roadway and/or transportation engineering is essential, especially experience involving ADOT standards and municipal regulations. Mastery of roadway design, signing, striping, and signal design alongside software proficiencies in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD is required to succeed in this role. Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a team environment are crucial. Job Requirements

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across regions to deliver quality projects on schedule
  • Manage multiple assignments concurrently while maintaining attention to detail and quality
  • Participate in client interactions, technical meetings, and coordinate with public agency stakeholders
