The Transportation Construction Assistant role, based in Louisville, offers an excellent opportunity to join Michael Baker International's Construction Services team, which acts as a trusted on-site agent for clients throughout all construction phases. This position is a hands-on role designed for individuals eager to gain practical field experience alongside seasoned inspectors. The successful candidate will assist in daily field activities, inspecting various aspects of bridge and roadway construction sites, taking precise field measurements, performing essential calculations, and verifying that materials and construction processes conform to project specifications. Additionally, this role involves preparing detailed inspection reports, ensuring construction activities align with project plans and regulatory requirements, and occasionally performing duties under varying weather conditions and physical demands. The position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $16 to $18, with opportunities for working different shifts including night shifts and overtime as required. While this role is subject to seasonal layoffs, it provides a valuable pathway into the construction management and inspection field, supported by the expertise and resources of a leading international firm.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED
valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check
1+ year construction experience preferred
basic math skills necessary to perform computations for length, area, and volume
availability to work various shifts including night shift
ability to sometimes work in adverse weather conditions
physically able to perform moderately strenuous tasks including walking along rough terrain, climbing ladders and lifting up to 50 pounds
position is subject to seasonal layoff

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Job Duties

Inspect various facets of work on a bridge or roadway construction site
take field measurements and perform calculations
prepare relevant inspection reports
verify that appropriate materials and construction processes are being used
ensure that construction conforms to the project plans, specifications, and special provisions
perform other duties as assigned
