The Class A Route Driver position based in Charleston, South Carolina, is crucial to Airgas’ operations. This role involves the safe and efficient delivery of compressed gas cylinders to both internal and external customers throughout the region. As the “face of Airgas,” the delivery driver plays an important part in maintaining excellent customer relationships while adhering to strict safety guidelines. This position requires operating company-provided trucks equipped for transporting compressed gases, including straight or box trucks. The delivery driver is responsible for loading, unloading, delivering, and returning cylinders, as well as maintaining detailed delivery records. The role demands a high level of professionalism, customer service skills, and adherence to government and company safety regulations.

Job Requirements
- Valid Class A commercial driver's license
- Valid USDOT medical examiner's certificate
- Hazmat endorsement (or ability to acquire)
- Ability to operate a vehicle with an air brake system
- Must be at least 21 years old
- At least one year of prior Class B professional driving experience within the last five years
- Clean driving record with no more than two convictions, or two at-fault accidents in the last three years, or a combination of one conviction and one at-fault accident in the last three years
Job Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
- Valid USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (card)
- Hazmat Endorsement (H or X Endorsement) or ability to acquire as a condition of employment
- Ability to operate a vehicle with an air brake system
- Must be at least 21 years old
- One year of prior Class B professional driving experience within the last five years
- Clean driving record with limited violations and accidents
- Prior experience in the gas, welding, and safety supply industries preferred
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to read and comprehend material data sheets
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and percentages
Job Duties
- Safely load, deliver, and unload cylinders containing compressed gases to both external and internal customer locations
- Accurately record deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest, obtaining customer signatures for receipt
- Collect empty, rejected, or unsold cylinders and return them to a plant or branch for refilling
- Adhere to all Airgas safety standards and government regulations, including DOT, EPA, FMCSA, FDA, and OSHA
- Provide assistance in the warehouse or on the dock as needed
- Interact professionally and courteously with customers and represent Airgas positively
- Operate company-provided straight or box trucks maintaining vehicle safety standards
