Transportation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder is an integral department committed to providing comprehensive transit, fleet management, and maintenance services for the faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus. With a vehicle fleet exceeding 600 in number, the department administers a robust transit system that serves approximately 1.4 million riders annually. This impressive transit network not only facilitates movement within the Boulder campus but also extends operational guidance to satellite campuses in Aurora, Boulder, and Denver. This vital role is for a Transit Manager who will lead the Transit Division, overseeing all aspects of campus transit operations. The division, consisting of 25 buses and a dedicated team of 35 staff members, requires a leader who emphasizes safety, customer service, public relations, meticulous planning, operational efficiency, and fiscal accountability to maintain and enhance the quality of transit services offered. The position involves analyzing monthly financials to identify cost-saving opportunities while ensuring service improvements, managing communications and marketing efforts for transit services, and coordinating with internal CU clients as well as external entities such as the City of Boulder and Boulder County to address public transit operations, campus shuttle services, and impacts stemming from construction projects or large events.
The Transit Manager will be expected to develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, lead staff training sessions, and proactively handle customer service issues to elevate the campus transit experience. They will work closely with other Colorado transit agencies to stay abreast of industry trends and innovations. Leadership responsibilities include supervising transit supervisors, coordinators, and trainers, conducting performance evaluations, and fostering a positive and safe work environment. Managing Battery Electric Bus (BEB) infrastructure, spearheading procurement of new electric buses, and handling capital grant applications are additional crucial facets of this role.

This position requires an in-person presence with a typical schedule from Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, although occasional weekends and evenings may be necessary. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience including 2 years of supervisory experience in transportation industry
- Valid driver's license
- Experience in bus dispatch, scheduling, and transit management
- Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
- Demonstrated collaborative and cooperative interpersonal skills
- Effective communication skills
- Proven decision-making and analytical capabilities
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in transportation
- Minimum of 5 years experience including 2 years supervisory role in transportation industry
- Experience in bus dispatch, scheduling, or transit management
- Working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations

Job Duties
- Regularly evaluates campus transit services including ridership and travel times to improve routes and service within fiscal limits
- Reviews and manages Transit Division financials, including salaries, maintenance, fuel, and vehicle depreciation
- Manages communication and marketing of transit services along with updating public-facing information and handling real-time service updates
- Leads operational responses to customer service issues and identifies improvement opportunities
- Develops and enforces Standard Operating Procedures and conducts staff training sessions
- Manages summer Buff Bus Charters including rates, reservations, and staffing
- Develops partnerships and attends seminars to stay updated on transit industry trends
- Supervises Transit Supervisors, Coordinators, and Driver Trainer, conducts performance reviews and fosters positive staff relations
- Oversees Battery Electric Bus charging infrastructure and leads procurement initiatives
- Applies for and manages capital grant applications and ongoing reporting
