The role of Transit Instructor at MV Transportation is pivotal in supporting individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, as well as senior citizens, by teaching crucial skills for independent use of public transportation. This position involves working closely with the Program Manager and Outreach Coordinator to facilitate training sessions tailored to each participant's abilities. Transit Instructors conduct in-home assessments to evaluate functional skills and design personalized training plans aimed at fostering independence. The job requires instructors to provide hands-on instruction while traveling on public transit and within community settings, ensuring safety and confidence for each participant.

Strong customer service skills and a deep understanding of disabilities and aging are essential. Job Requirements

Education equivalent to an AA degree or two years of relevant experience
Valid driver’s license
Good driving record
Proof of insurance
Own transportation
Strong knowledge of Word and Excel
Dedicated home office space for remote work
Strong communication skills
Ability to self-manage remotely

Knowledge of local transit systems
Ability to maintain safety

Job Qualifications

Education equivalent to an AA degree from an accredited institution, specializing in social services or special education, preferred
Two years of experience providing instruction or working one-on-one with individuals having developmental and/or physical disabilities or supporting senior populations
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Proof of insurance and own transportation
Strong proficiency in Word and Excel
Demonstrated customer service skills in field settings
Dedicated home office space for remote work
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail oriented with a demonstrated concern for safety of vulnerable populations
Ability to self-manage in remote settings
Ability to inspire confidence in participants’ ability to use public transportation independently
Passion for working with vulnerable populations showing integrity, responsibility, dependability, punctuality, flexibility, initiative, and clear communication

Job Duties

Conduct assessment with clients and family in their home to determine participants’ functional skills, abilities, and necessary training requirements
Maintain daily contact with family and/or other agency staff as required for individual training
Teach while traveling on public transportation, and within the community
Demonstrate patience, compassion, and empathy for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities, as well as senior citizens
Be a strong self-manager, team orientated with excellent communication skills
Solve problems independently in changing environments
Maintain knowledge of the local transit system
Make safety a top priority
Provide strong customer service with an understanding of working with individuals with physical and developmental disabilities and senior community
Maintain a dedicated home office space for working remotely
Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills
Research and understand different disabilities to better support students
Develop individual training plans for participants
Provide one-on-one field training to people with physical and/or developmental disabilities and senior citizens
Maintain accurate confidential documentation
Prepare final reports on training activities at the conclusion of sessions
