The role of Tram Driver at Hornblower Group is a critical position, particularly associated with operations on Alcatraz Island. This seasonal position, running from July through November, involves the safe, efficient, and customer-oriented operation of the Tram used to transport visitors across the island. The Tram Driver is responsible not only for expertly maneuvering the vehicle according to National Park Service (NPS) Standard Operating Procedures but also for ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for all passengers.
The Tram Driver's duties include managing boarding lines and crowd control at the Alcatraz dock, ensuring the smooth flow of visitors on and off the Tram. The role demands strict adherence to safety guidelines, daily maintenance and safety checks on the Tram, and precise scheduling to maintain timely arrivals and departures. Beyond operational tasks, the Tram Driver serves as an ambassador by informing visitors about safety protocols and enhancing their overall visit.
This position requires an attentive, proactive individual capable of handling emergencies with a thorough knowledge of NPS emergency procedures. The Tram Driver must also complete all required training courses related to the job, maintaining a high standard of safety and service. In essence, this role combines critical operational responsibilities with a customer service focus, ensuring that all visitors to Alcatraz Island have a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in driving or operating similar vehicles preferred
- Knowledge of National Park Service safety and operational procedures
- Physical ability to perform job duties including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Flexibility to work seasonally from July to November
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in driving or operation of vehicles preferred
- Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively with visitors
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and inspection of vehicles

Job Duties
- Drive tram safely according to driving guidelines outlined by NPS Standard Operating Procedures
- Prepare SEAT for daily operations prior to beginning of the shift
- Assure that all daily maintenance and safety checks are performed and logged reporting all maintenance requirements to supervisor within specified time frame
- Actively monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding the tram and de-boarding
- Maintain within safety guidelines SEAT arrival and departure schedules
- Advise visitors as necessary of site safety
- Strictly follow driving guidelines outlined in the National Park Service SOP
- Manage the boarding and offloads of departures and arrivals assure that boats depart in a timely manner
- Complete all training courses deemed appropriate to SEAT driver job
- Be thoroughly familiar with NPS emergency procedures and respond should an emergency arise
- Monitor and maintain a safe environment for riders and visitors walking on roadways
- Other duties as assigned
