Job Description

The Kingsville Tourism Department plays a pivotal role in this vision, striving to attract visitors through effective marketing, sales initiatives, and event management. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Tourism Services Director position oversees all activities related to tourism development and department operations. As Tourism Services Director, the successful candidate will lead strategic planning and policy development to position Kingsville as a premier destination for dining, shopping, accommodations, attractions, and recreational opportunities. They will implement comprehensive marketing strategies utilizing multiple platforms including written, verbal, visual, and electronic communications to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Additionally, the director maintains ongoing relationships with public and private sector partners, event organizers, and community groups to ensure a cohesive approach to tourism growth.
This role requires strong leadership skills to guide staff performance, oversee budgeting processes, manage contracts and financial issues, and ensure compliance with legal and policy standards. The director also provides expert recommendations to the City Manager and officials regarding city events and tourism initiatives, participating actively as a member of the executive management team. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with the media, public, and various community stakeholders.
The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field and at least five years of progressively responsible management experience in tourism development or related sales and marketing roles, with an additional two years of event coordination experience. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills is also acceptable. Moreover, the director must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to lead strategically, and a proven track record of delivering measurable results.
