Job Description

Sandoval County is a vibrant and growing region located in the state of New Mexico, known for its rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and commitment to economic development. The county government is dedicated to improving the quality of life for its residents through strategic initiatives that enhance tourism, local business opportunities, and community engagement. Working within the county's Economic Development Department, employees have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that stimulate growth and promote Sandoval County as a premier destination for visitors and investors alike.

This role focuses on the management and promotion of Sandoval County's Tourism and Event Center as part of a comprehensive effort to implement the NM True Brand Campaign and other related marketing strategies. The position is essential in coordinating and overseeing various activities that align with the county’s tourism development goals. As the Tourism and Event Center Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing financial oversight and planning related to the branding, marketing, and tourism efforts in Sandoval County. This includes developing and implementing policies, procedures, and marketing plans designed to increase the utilization and visibility of the Event Center while fostering relationships with local hotels, restaurants, and attractions. The role requires facilitating active collaboration with key stakeholders such as the County Lodgers Tax Board and Tourism Alliance Committees to ensure strategic objectives are met.

Key responsibilities involve managing the day-to-day operations of the Event Center, including event staffing, advance planning, and maintaining facilities to high standards, ensuring that the venue remains competitive in attracting diverse events. The manager will also play a significant role in securing and administering grant funding that supports tourism-related economic development. This includes writing grants, ensuring compliance, managing finances, and overseeing contracted staff tasked with grant administration.

Marketing efforts led by the manager will include creating and executing campaigns to promote Sandoval County tourism to regional, national, and international audiences by leveraging media relations, familiarization tours for travel professionals and media, and content development for digital and print materials. The role requires a high level of creativity in message development, collaboration with the County Marketing and Communications Department, and ongoing evaluation of marketing effectiveness through web analytics and other metrics.

In addition, the position involves conducting educational programs for hospitality sector personnel to keep them informed about the county's attractions and events. Regular presentations to local and regional civic and governmental organizations are also expected to maintain and build support for tourism initiatives.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Marketing, Economic Development, Business Administration, or a related field, coupled with at least four years of relevant experience in event management within a convention or conference center environment. Experience in grant writing and administration is highly desirable. A valid New Mexico driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire is required.

This career opportunity offers a dynamic and impactful platform for professionals passionate about tourism, community development, and economic growth. Candidates interested in shaping the future of Sandoval County's tourism landscape and promoting an attractive, sustainable visitor experience will find this role challenging and rewarding.
