Job Description
The Saint Louis Art Museum is a renowned cultural institution located in Saint Louis, Missouri, dedicated to providing exceptional art experiences and educational programs to the public. As a prominent museum known for its extensive art collections and dynamic exhibitions, the Saint Louis Art Museum serves as a vital resource for art lovers, students, educators, and community members. The Museum continuously strives to promote art appreciation, cultural enrichment, and learning through diverse initiatives and public engagement strategies. It is widely recognized as a treasured destination where visitors can explore art from various periods and cultures in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
This role focuses on coordinating and scheduling a variety of guided and self-guided tours, along with virtual field trips, aimed at enhancing visitor engagement and education. As part of the Learning and Engagement Division, the person in this position will work closely with volunteer educators (docents and guides), managing their schedules and supporting their training programs. This role acts as a central communication hub for tour-related activities, involving collaboration with multiple museum departments—including Curatorial, Marketing, Event Operations, and Visitor Services—to ensure flawless coordination and delivery of museum tours and programs.
The Tour Coordinator is responsible for processing public and internal requests for tours, reserving event and gallery spaces, and assigning volunteer educators and staff to lead tours. This comprehensive scheduling effort helps to maintain a smooth flow of tours and maximizes the museum's ability to accommodate visitors. Additionally, the role requires greeting scheduled groups, preparing tour resources, and assisting with both in-person and virtual training sessions for volunteers. This position requires strong organizational skills, a customer-service-oriented approach, and the ability to manage complex logistics.
The Museum offers a full-time, regular position with a competitive pay range of $20.88 to $25.05 per hour, commensurate with experience. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about art education and community engagement to contribute meaningfully within a major cultural institution. The role demands excellent communication skills, patience, and a proactive attitude to meet the needs of both visitors and volunteers effectively. Additionally, the position supports data collection and reporting related to tour participation, which aids in grant proposals and program evaluations, further supporting the Museum's mission.
Overall, this position provides a unique blend of administrative duties, hands-on visitor interaction, and collaborative teamwork within the Museum’s vibrant environment. The successful candidate will play an integral role in facilitating enriching educational experiences for the public while supporting the efforts of dedicated volunteers and staff. Working at the Saint Louis Art Museum means being part of a dedicated team that values diversity, excellence, and cultural education, offering employees a stimulating workplace filled with opportunities for professional growth and personal fulfillment.
