Job Description

Reata Glen is a distinguished Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) dedicated to providing exceptional living experiences through its variety of villas and apartment homes for hundreds of residents. This community is known for its comprehensive full services including restaurant dining, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance services, transportation, fitness classes, wellness programs, and numerous engaging activities designed to foster a vibrant and supportive environment for all residents. We are currently seeking to fill the position of Cook II, a full-time role working 40 hours per week with shifts that include at least one weekend day. The service hours span from Monday through Saturday, 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, or Sunday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This role offers a competitive hourly wage between $24 and $26, reflecting the importance of skilled culinary professionals within our dynamic food service team. Working as a Cook II at Reata Glen means being an integral part of a service-oriented kitchen that prepares and serves a wide variety of food items with attention to quality, nutrition, and presentation. The cook is responsible for the preparation of sauces, sautés, boils, braises, roasts, fries, steams, grills, and other culinary techniques to deliver meals that meet standardized recipes and quality standards. The role involves preparing a diverse range of meats, seafood, poultry, fish, vegetables, and other menu items, ensuring that the food served is of the highest standard in flavor and appearance.

Moreover, this position supports food preparation for daily service, special functions, banquets, catering, and holiday events, demanding adaptability and meticulous workmanship. The Cook II takes ownership of maintaining food product levels at line stations to ensure seamless service periods and works closely with kitchen leadership to plan food production in alignment with meal serving schedules. Safety and sanitation are paramount, requiring compliance with all kitchen safety procedures and department hygiene standards. Job Requirements

  • Minimum three years of cooking experience in a related setting
  • ability to plan and organize work effectively

  • familiarity with kitchen equipment operations and maintenance

  • willingness to work full-time including weekends
  • ability to comply with safety and sanitation guidelines

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum three years experience as a cook in hotel, restaurant, retirement community, or similar institution
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
  • some knowledge of nutrition and diet
  • culinary education preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and serve food items based on standardized recipes
  • prepare sauces, sautés, boils, braises, roasts, fries, steams, grills, bake, and short order cooking
  • prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, fish, vegetables ensuring quality
  • assist in daily food prep and special events including banquets and catering
  • stock and maintain food products at line stations
  • plan food production to coordinate with service hours
  • ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
