The Traveling Chef position at OVG is a part-time role located in Oak Ridge North, Texas. The Traveling Chef is responsible for supervising kitchen staff, coaching and mentoring employees to meet company quality standards, and maintaining a positive and cooperative work environment. The role demands excellent attendance, availability to work variable schedules including evenings and weekends, and the flexibility to accept or decline assignments with an expectation to complete all shifts once accepted. Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently while supporting the overall goals of the hospitality team.

This position requires overseeing line setup, prep work, and breakdown activities, delegating tasks to kitchen personnel, and assisting the Executive Chef with administrative duties such as inventory management and food ordering. The Traveling Chef ensures all food is prepared according to recipes, monitors portion control and timing, and enforces rigorous kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards. The role also involves motivating kitchen staff by working alongside them and fostering a cooperative and enthusiastic workplace culture. This is a pivotal position that significantly contributes to the smooth and profitable operation of OVG's catering services and live event food production.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe certification
  • Previous experience in food preparation and kitchen supervision

Job Duties

  • Supervises all line setup, prep, and breakdown activities
  • Delegates tasks to line personnel during service
  • Assists Executive Chef with kitchen administrative duties including inventories and ordering

  • Measures, mixes, and cooks ingredients according to recipes
  • Maintains a clean kitchen environment

  • Monitors food appearance, temperature, sanitation, and quality
  • Guides and motivates kitchen employees
