This role is based at the University of Utah, specifically at the Ken Garff University Club in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Restaurant Supervisor position is a full-time, regular role offering an hourly wage between $15.00 and $20.00. This role is vital for the successful operation of the restaurant within the University Club, overseeing daily team activities and ensuring exceptional guest service. The Restaurant Supervisor is tasked with leading and mentoring the food service team, maintaining food quality, managing compliance with health and safety regulations, and ensuring the dining environment is clean, organized, and welcoming.

The supervisor manages shift coverage and coordinates breaks to maintain smooth operational flow. They ensure that team members are well-informed about menu offerings, including any special items, to deliver knowledgeable and engaging service to guests. Part of the responsibilities also includes ensuring that the venue is consistently stocked and fully prepared for service periods, enforcing compliance with liquor laws related to alcohol service, and adhering to food and franchise-related contractual agreements.

Additional duties involve conducting end-of-shift cash reports, troubleshooting technical issues with Point of Sale (POS) systems, coordinating with support teams as necessary, and fostering a positive team environment through ongoing coaching and mentoring. The ideal candidate must excel in communication, demonstrating a respectful and positive manner when interacting with internal team members and external guests alike.

This position demands the ability to handle cash carefully and accurately, perform basic mathematical calculations relevant to transactions and inventory management, and work effectively within a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment that often coincides with event-driven activities. The role requires availability for nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic schedule of the venue.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2-3+ year supervisory experience in a restaurant environment
  • experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume food court, buffet, and/or club in a supervisory capacity is preferred
  • must acquire and maintain a valid Health Food Handlers Card, Alcohol Awareness Certification, Suspicious Activity training, and other required compliance trainings
  • ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly
  • ability to calculate basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) as they relate to POS cash/credit transactions, cash reconciliation, and product inventory
  • ability to communicate with team members, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner
  • ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on event needs
  • must be able to lift and move heavy objects

Job Duties

  • Supervises shift coverage and coordinates breaks for team members
  • ensures team members maintain knowledge of the menu and any specials being offered
  • supervises the team in maintaining a clean and presentable work area
  • ensures the venues are stocked and prepared for service at all times
  • complies and ensures compliance with liquor laws regarding alcohol service where applicable
  • complies with all departmental food and franchise contractual agreements
  • conducts end-of-shift reports for cashiers on shift
  • coordinates in troubleshooting technical problems with Point of Sale (POS) systems, facilities, equipment, etc., and contacts for appropriate support as necessary
  • provides ongoing supervision and mentoring to team members
  • monitors product quality and ensures a high level of guest service
  • coordinates the ongoing coaching and mentoring of the team as directed by department management
  • communicates in a positive, respectful manner to both internal and external guests
