Located at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa, Oak View Group is currently seeking a full-time Operations Manager role aimed at overseeing the seamless functionality of all arena and convention spaces within the venue. This vital leadership position carries an annual salary in the range of $44,000 to $47,000, reflecting the competitive compensation aligned with industry standards. The Operations Manager will lead both full-time and part-time hourly employees in the Operations Department, focusing on key areas such as housekeeping, room setups, show care, and event conversions.
This role places a strong emphasis on ensuring efficient planning, coordination, and review of complex event staffing and operational needs. The Operations Manager is responsible for developing detailed work plans, forecasting labor and equipment needs, and maintaining facility standards that adhere to safety regulations including OSHA requirements. This position is pivotal in fostering a safe, healthy, and productive work environment, while meticulously managing staff schedules to balance coverage and labor costs.
Key responsibilities also involve direct oversight and support of housekeeping and changeover crews, negotiating and coordinating partnerships with temporary staffing agencies, contractors, and vendors. The Operations Manager has hiring authority for part-time building attendants, engages in coaching and employee development, and handles disciplinary procedures in collaboration with HR. Additionally, this role requires the active management of collective bargaining agreements and union relationships to ensure compliance and maintain positive labor relations.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of related operations or facility experience
- Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced environment
- Availability for event-driven schedules including nights and weekends
- Strong organizational skills
- Self-motivated and team-oriented
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in facility management, event management, or related field (experience considered in lieu of education)
- 3-5 years of experience in operations or facility management in arenas, convention centers, or similar
- Proficient computer skills in Windows environment
- Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, internet programs
- Ability to communicate professionally in-person and in writing
- Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards
- Forklift certification or ability to acquire within 90 days
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work variable schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Duties
- Manage planning, coordinating, and review of work plans for facility operations
- Review and communicate event documents to forecast staffing and equipment needs
- Coordinate department schedules to ensure proper facility coverage and monitor labor costs
- Oversee housekeeping and changeover crews, providing team support
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and report unsafe conditions
- Communicate with temporary staffing agencies for labor scheduling and monitoring
- Interview, hire, coach, and discipline part-time building attendants
- Manage employee relations including suspension, termination, and DNR situations
- Provide and oversee training for all operations employees
- Comply with and supervise employees under collective bargaining agreements
- Maintain professional relations with union representatives
- Lead staff training and safety programs
- Maintain departmental equipment and coordinate repairs
- Participate in budget development and expenditure monitoring
- Collaborate on events with other departments
- Maintain excellent attendance and contribute to a safe work environment
