Job Description
Oak View Group (OVG) is a global leader in the live entertainment industry, specializing in developing and managing premium venues and providing comprehensive services related to venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Established in 2015, OVG operates an impressive portfolio that includes seven world-class owned venues along with a prestigious roster of clients, encompassing iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions worldwide across four continents. Oak View Group continually aims to innovate and enhance the live experience, combining top-tier infrastructure with cutting-edge event services that attract and engage diverse audiences globally.
The Iowa Events Center, located at 730 Third Street in Des Moines, Iowa, represents a key venue within the OVG platform, known for hosting a wide array of events including concerts, conventions, sporting events, and cultural gatherings. As a significant facility in the region, it requires expert operational management to maintain high standards of functionality, safety, and guest satisfaction.
The role of Operations Manager at the Iowa Events Center is a full-time, hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing all operations within the arena and convention areas. This position commands an annual salary range of $44,000 to $47,000. The role entails direct supervision of both full-time and part-time employees within the Operations Department, specifically focusing on housekeeping, room setups, event care, and event space conversions. The Operations Manager is essential in ensuring the seamless execution of work plans, staffing, and safety protocols while maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations including OSHA guidelines.
Responsibilities extend beyond routine management to include strategic forecasting, labor cost monitoring, and scheduling to optimize facility coverage. The manager acts as a key intermediary between event managers, food services, audio/visual teams, IT, engineering, and external vendors or contractors, fostering strong collaborative relationships for smooth event operations. Additionally, this role is charged with supervising recruiting, training, mentoring, and the performance management of all Operations employees, ensuring that the workforce is efficient, motivated, and aligned with OVG’s standards of excellence.
Another critical component involves budgetary oversight within the Operations Department which includes forecasting necessary resources, approving expenditures, and recommending improvements. The Operations Manager also ensures workforce safety and compliance, addressing any unsafe working conditions, employee issues, and escalating incidents where necessary. The position requires excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills to manage a dynamic, fast-paced, and event-driven environment that regularly operates during varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
This role also demands proficiency with relevant technology and systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based platforms, and requires forklift certification or the ability to acquire it shortly after employment begins. Embedded within Oak View Group’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Operations Manager will thrive in a culture that values diverse backgrounds and perspectives, contributing to a workplace that promotes innovation and excellence.
Working with Oak View Group offers comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) savings with company matching, and paid time off encompassing vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The position remains open until September 11, 2026, welcoming dedicated professionals to join a leading organization shaping the future of live entertainment operations.
