One of the company's standout facilities is the Utah Valley Convention Center (UVCC), situated in historic downtown Provo, Utah. UVCC's functional floor plan enables it to accommodate a diverse range of events, making it an ideal venue for conferences, conventions, banquets, and other gatherings.

The Operations & Security Manager is a vital full-time position based at the Utah Valley Convention Center, reporting within the organizational framework of Oak View Group. This role is designed to provide strong and dynamic leadership overseeing both operations and security functions. A key focus of the position is to ensure that events hosted at UVCC are executed flawlessly, with efficient setup and logistics while maintaining a safe and secure environment for guests, clients, and staff alike.

With an annual salary range of $55,000 to $60,000, the Operations & Security Manager is responsible for supervising all event-related operations from planning to execution and breakdown. They are tasked with coordinating room setups, event day logistics, equipment placement, and timelines while ensuring accuracy and meeting the expectations of clients and internal teams including AV, banquets, and event managers. They also manage inventory, operational records, and collaborate closely with the Building Services Manager on facility cleaning to maintain a high standard of presentation and functionality.

Security oversight is equally crucial, with responsibilities including patrolling, access management, monitoring entrances and exits, shipping and receiving operations, and enforcement of security policies. The manager is also the key contact during emergency situations, handling fire, medical, and public safety incidents, all while supporting emergency preparedness and evacuation programs. Compliance with OSHA standards, fire codes, and public safety regulations is rigorously maintained.

The position involves hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising a team dedicated to operations and security, ensuring consistent performance and continuous development. Clear communication, high-level customer service, and collaboration with vendors, clients, and guests are essential to achieving success. Additionally, this role entails administrative duties including payroll approval, budget management, invoice coding, and ensuring all work adheres to company policies and legal standards.

Job Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in event operations, venue management, or security
  • Supervisory experience

  • Valid Utah driver’s license or ability to attain one

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all event-related operations including room setups, event day needs, configurations, and post-event breakdown
  • Ensure accuracy of event setups
  • Coordinate with event managers, AV, banquets, and other departments to meet event requirements and guest needs
  • Oversee event logistics including equipment placement, changeovers, and operational timelines
  • Manage inventory, organization, and distribution of operations equipment and supplies
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation
  • Work closely with the Building Services Manager on facility cleaning
  • Oversee all facility security operations including patrols, access management, and monitoring of entrances and exits
  • Manage shipping and receiving operations
  • log and track all items entering and leaving the facility
  • Coordinate exhibitor load-in/load-out procedures and ensure compliance with facility policies
  • Monitor events to identify and address safety or security risks and provide recommendations
  • Enforce security policies including sign-in/out procedures and use of security systems
  • Respond to and manage emergency situations including fire, medical, and public safety incidents
  • Support and administer emergency preparedness and evacuation programs
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, fire codes, and public safety regulations
  • Prepare, review, and maintain incident reports and implement corrective actions
  • Serve as liaison with local law enforcement agencies as needed
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate operations and security staff
  • Develop staff schedules and approve payroll/time cards
  • Provide ongoing training in safety, security, and operational procedures
  • Assign and prioritize daily work activities and monitor workflow and staff performance
  • Address performance issues, implement discipline, and support employee development
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-service-oriented work environment
  • Provide high-level customer service to clients, vendors, and guests
  • Act as a point of contact during events to resolve operational or security issues
