Job Description
Oak View Group (OVG) is a global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services. Founded in 2015, the company operates a platform that spans venue development and end-to-end capabilities including venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. OVG serves a collection of seven world-class owned venues, as well as a client roster featuring some of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions globally, spanning four continents. With a strong commitment to excellence, innovation, and community, Oak View Group aims to create unparalleled experiences for guests and fans while fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity.
The Stormont Vail Events Center, located in Topeka, Kansas, is a premier entertainment, exhibition, and convention venue in Northeast Kansas. Owned by Shawnee County and managed by Oak View Group, the venue consists of five buildings including a newly renovated 10,000-seat arena, a newly upgraded exhibit hall with over 78,000 square feet of open space, a livestock facility with multiple arenas and stalls, and two community buildings hosting numerous events of varying sizes. The Events Center is known for hosting a wide range of functions from concerts and sporting events to conventions and cultural celebrations, making it a cornerstone of the local and regional community.
The role offered is for a Part-Time Line Cook at the Stormont Vail Events Center, providing an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals or food service enthusiasts to join a dynamic team in a vibrant event-driven environment. This position is integral to maintaining the high standards of food quality and service that support the venue's reputation for excellence. The Line Cook will be responsible for preparing foods to be served directly to guests throughout the venue, often working in areas such as buffet lines or preparing made-to-order dishes.
Working at the Stormont Vail Events Center as a Line Cook means engaging in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere where excellent attendance and reliability are essential. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $12.00 to $14.00, and the role is tip eligible, providing an opportunity for additional earnings beyond base pay. Part-Time employees are also eligible for benefits such as a 401(k) Savings Plan with company matching, supporting financial well-being and long-term planning.
In this role, the Line Cook will prepare hot and cold foods according to company recipes and portioning requirements, ensuring consistency and quality in every dish served. The position requires close collaboration with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Supervisor to plan menus and estimate food consumption based on event needs. Maintaining sanitation, health, and safety standards is paramount, including reporting equipment maintenance issues promptly and ensuring food is cooked and presented according to established guidelines.
The ideal candidate will bring prior cooking or prep cook experience and possess the ability to operate standard kitchen equipment such as broilers, steamers, convection ovens, mixers, meat slicers, and chef knives. Effective communication skills are equally important to foster a positive and cooperative working environment among employees, volunteers, management, and guests. Candidates with valid food handling certificates and ServSafe certification are preferred, reflecting a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Oak View Group champions an inclusive workplace culture that embraces diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. The company believes that inclusivity drives innovation, improves service, and elevates excellence. As a result, it is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and building a team that reflects the diverse communities it serves.
For culinary professionals passionate about delivering high-quality food in a lively and respected venue, this Part-Time Line Cook position offers the chance to be a part of something special at the Stormont Vail Events Center, supported by the global reach and resources of Oak View Group.
