This exciting part-time Line Cook position is based at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, playing an integral role in providing exceptional culinary services during athletic and special events hosted at the university. The role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-volume food service setting, particularly throughout the CSU football season, which begins with the season opener on Saturday, September 5th, 2026. Typical shifts last between 9 to 12 hours per game, depending on the specific event location, and the position requires commitment to all seven home football games of the season, with some allowance for exceptions under certain circumstances. Additionally, line cooks may have the chance to participate in catering events based on shift availability.
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality, fresh meals that meet company standards for taste, presentation, and portion control. This position requires meticulous attention to detail in food preparation, adherence to recipes and portioning guidelines, and maintaining sanitation, health, and safety standards within the kitchen environment. You will work closely with the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and Kitchen Supervisors to plan menus and estimate consumption needs, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and excellent guest experiences. The role also demands effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and management, as well as a positive, enthusiastic attitude in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
Beyond the immediate hands-on cooking duties, the position emphasizes teamwork, timely service, and maintaining kitchen equipment by reporting any maintenance needs promptly. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous cooking or food preparation experience preferred
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks
- Valid food handling certificate if required by the state
- Availability to work evenings and weekends, especially during football season
- Ability to commit to working all seven home football games
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable transportation to work location
Job Qualifications
- Previous cook or prep cook experience highly preferred
- Able to operate standard kitchen equipment including broiler, steamer, convection oven, mixer, meat slicer, and chef knife
- Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests clearly and respectfully
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Possess a valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations
- ServSafe certification preferred
Job Duties
- Provide high-quality, fresh food products in a timely manner for delivery to guests
- Prepare hot and cold foods following company recipes and portioning requirements
- Participate as a team player with responsibilities related to preparation, service, and delivery of product
- Report any maintenance needed for kitchen equipment
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
- Observe and test foods to ensure proper cooking
- Portion, arrange, and garnish food plates for delivery to guests
- Consult with Executive Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Supervisor to plan menus and estimate food consumption
- Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability
