The Line Cook position available at Colorado State University (CSU) through Oak View Group offers a unique part-time opportunity for culinary professionals and enthusiasts eager to develop their skills in a high-volume food service environment, particularly during athletic events. This role is based in Fort Collins, Colorado, and involves preparing high-quality, fresh food products for guests attending CSU athletic and special events. Line Cooks will engage in both hot and cold food preparation, adhering strictly to company recipes and portioning guidelines to ensure consistency and excellence in every dish served. Scheduled primarily around CSU’s football season and selected special events, shifts can range from nine to twelve hours per event, emphasizing the need for dedication and commitment to all seven home games. Flexibility is valued, and exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous culinary or food preparation experience highly preferred
  • Ability to maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards
  • Availability to work flexible, long shifts typically 9-12 hours during football game days and special events
  • Commitment to work all seven home football games, with some exceptions
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid food handling certificate if required by local or federal regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Previous cook or prep cook experience highly preferred
  • Able to operate standard kitchen equipment, including the broiler, steamer, convection oven, mixer, meat slicer, and chef knife
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • Possess a valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations
  • ServSafe preferred

Job Duties

  • Responsible for providing high-quality fresh food products in a timely manner for delivery to guests
  • Prepares hot and cold foods following company recipes and portioning requirements
  • Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service, and delivery of product
  • Responsible for reporting any maintenance required for kitchen equipment
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • Responsible for observing and testing foods to ensure proper cooking
  • Responsible for portioning, arranging, and garnishing food plates for delivery to guests
  • Responsible for consulting with Executive Chef, Sous Chef or Kitchen Supervisor to plan menus and estimate expected food consumption
  • Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance
