The Palm Springs Convention Center, located at 277 N Avenida Caballeros in Palm Springs, California, is part of the Oak View Group family. The Lead Server position at the Palm Springs Convention Center is a part-time role, offering an hourly wage between $20.00 and $25.00. This role is integral to the venue's food and beverage operations, ensuring guests receive the highest level of service during catered events. The Lead Server is responsible for overseeing the server team, directing them in accordance with management’s guidelines, and ensuring seamless food service and guest satisfaction throughout events. This position requires individuals who are personable, professional, and adaptable to the dynamic and fast-paced nature of event environments.
Key responsibilities include briefing staff on specific event requirements, monitoring service quality, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations, including alcohol service laws. The ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent attendance, maintain a professional appearance, and uphold uniform standards. The Lead Server will also assist with banquet setups, including arranging linens, dishware, and tabletop items, as well as managing the replenishment of buffet food. Cash handling and adherence to accounting procedures are also essential aspects of this role.
This position necessitates working a flexible, event-driven schedule, often including evenings and weekends, to meet the demands of the venue’s diverse calendar. Candidates are expected to be self-directed, capable of managing a team with minimal supervision while fostering a positive employee climate. Proficiency with basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred. Additionally, candidates must hold the required Food Handlers card, Liquor License, and Liquor Training certifications.

Job Duties
- Ensures staff are briefed on event requirements at each shift and assigned to a specific area prior to events
- Answer questions of catering staff and provide direction based on ability to comprehend BEOs
- Assists with conducting a walkthrough of rooms and storage areas after teardown and completion of event to ensure all areas are clean and organized
- Monitors food and beverage quality and guest service and ensures highest level of guest service during event
- Demonstrates ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance, be well-groomed with a professional appearance, and adhere to uniform standards
- Responsible for setting up banquet functions including linens, dishware, glassware, flatware, and requested tabletop items
- Responsible for serving guests and replenishing food for buffet service
- Ensures all policies and procedures regarding accounting and cash handling practices are followed
- Responsible for overseeing the service of alcoholic beverages to guests
- Ensures staff members are checking IDs to verify minimum age, are serving beverages responsibly in accordance with state/federal regulations
- Enforces all OVG Food Service and Hospitality and venue policies and procedures as they relate to guest satisfaction, quality standards, uniform policy, operating procedures, and quality presentation
- All other duties as assigned by Management
