The Lead Server role at Oak View Group’s Palm Springs Convention Center location is a part-time position offering an hourly wage between $20.00 to $25.00. This role plays a critical part in ensuring exceptional guest service during catered events hosted at the venue. As a Lead Server, you will provide guidance and oversight to the serving staff, facilitating seamless and high-quality service in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This position demands a personable and professional demeanor, excellent attendance, and availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to support variable event schedules.
The Lead Server is responsible for managing the catering staff's assignments, briefing them on event specifics, and ensuring compliance with company policies on service quality, safety, and uniform standards. You will be instrumental in setting up banquet functions, maintaining food and beverage quality, supervising the proper service of alcoholic beverages, and ensuring adherence to all relevant state and federal regulations. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years of relevant food service or catering supervision experience preferred
- Ability to work a flexible, event-driven schedule including evenings and weekends
- Basic proficiency with computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with cash handling and accurate math skills
- Strong English reading, writing, and verbal skills
- Ability to lead and direct a team with minimal oversight
- Proper certifications including Food Handlers card, liquor license, and liquor training
- Excellent attendance and professional appearance
- Commitment to upholding company policies and standards
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One or more years of food service, catering management, or related supervisory experience preferred
- Basic computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred
- Cash handling experience and basic math skills
- Effective reading, comprehension, verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and monitor guest behaviors
- Strong interpersonal and professional communication abilities
- Self-directed with leadership capability to manage and motivate a team
- Current Food Handlers card, liquor license, and liquor training
Job Duties
- Ensure staff are briefed on event requirements and assigned to specific areas prior to events
- Answer catering staff questions and provide direction based on banquet event orders
- Assist with walkthroughs of rooms and storage areas after events to ensure cleanliness and organization
- Monitor food and beverage quality and guest service throughout events
- Demonstrate excellent attendance, professional appearance, and adherence to uniform standards
- Set up banquet functions including linens, dishware, glassware, flatware, and tabletop items
- Serve guests and replenish food for buffet service
- Ensure compliance with accounting and cash handling procedures
- Oversee service of alcoholic beverages verifying ID and adherence to regulations
- Enforce Oak View Group food service, hospitality, and venue policies related to guest satisfaction, quality, uniform policy, operating procedures, and presentation
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
