The role available is for a Part-Time Host at the University of Kansas Social Club, situated within the historic Allen Fieldhouse at 1651 Naismith Drive, Lawrence, Kansas. This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $12.00 to $15.00, with the possibility of earning tips, and benefits including a 401(k) savings plan and matching specific to part-time employment.

The Host position is a frontline, guest-facing role integral to creating outstanding first impressions in a high-volume, quality-driven environment. The successful candidate will be personable, professional, and passionate about hospitality, tasked with ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction from the moment patrons arrive. Responsibilities span greeting guests warmly, managing reservations and seating arrangements, assisting with inquiries, and collaborating closely with front-of-house staff to optimize guest service and flow. The role requires maintaining a welcoming reception area and possessing a keen knowledge of menu offerings to assist guests effectively.

Additional duties include providing attentive service during events, ensuring timely and neat presentation of food and beverage items, pre-bussing and bus tables as needed, stocking beverage stations, and maintaining a professional and clean appearance. Excellent communication skills are necessary to coordinate with wait staff, bartenders, kitchen teams, and supervisors to deliver a seamless dining experience. This role also demands flexibility to work during peak periods, a calm demeanor in a busy environment, and a strong organizational capability.

Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • minimum of 6 months experience in a fast-paced food service environment preferred
  • ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, event-driven environment
  • must acquire and maintain a food handlers card and alcohol awareness certification
  • outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months working in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment is preferred
  • previous experience as a host, receptionist, or in a customer-facing hospitality role is preferred
  • must have a high school diploma, G.E.D. or related food service job experience
  • must acquire and maintain a food handlers card, alcohol awareness certification, and other required compliance trainings
  • ability to work in a team-oriented event-driven environment
