The Food & Beverage Supervisor role at Oak View Group’s Ocean Center is a part-time position offering an hourly wage of $17.00. This role is central to ensuring the smooth and efficient service of guests in dining areas and catering functions within this busy venue. The Food & Beverage Supervisor is responsible for supervising the meal and beverage service, ensuring excellent customer service standards, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate must be personable, detail-oriented, and flexible to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that caters to diverse audiences daily.

In this role, the Food & Beverage Supervisor supports Food & Beverage Managers in various projects, including staff training, inventory management, and the coordination of special events. The supervisor actively oversees dining operations such as guiding guests through buffet lines, supervising beverage service with a particular focus on responsible alcohol service and verifying guest identification to comply with age restrictions, and ensuring tables are well-maintained throughout service. Additionally, this position involves guest engagement to recommend menu items and explain preparation methods to enhance the overall dining experience.

The supervisor also plays a critical role in maintaining sanitation, health, and safety standards in the work areas as well as overseeing the setup and breakdown of banquet functions including linens, dishware, glassware, and silverware. Strong attention to detail is required to ensure all equipment and materials are operable and clean before events commence. The ability to recognize guests who are visibly intoxicated and take appropriate action is a key responsibility to ensure a safe environment.

Job Requirements

  • At least a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years' experience in a supervisory role within restaurant, catering, or similar fast-paced environments
  • valid food handling certificate or alcohol service permit as required by local or state law
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events
  • flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • reliable transportation to and from the Ocean Center location
  • ability to handle cash and perform cash reconciliation accurately
  • adherence to health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • excellent attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years' experience working in a supervisory capacity in a fast-paced restaurant or catering environment or applicable education
  • ability to supervise the work of others
  • ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
  • ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • possess a valid food handling certificate or alcohol service permit if required by state or federal regulations
  • ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly
  • ability to calculate basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages) as they relate to POS cash/credit transactions, cash reconciliation, and product inventory

Job Duties

  • Oversee meal service to guests or guide guests through the buffet line as needed
  • supervise beverage service, including alcoholic beverages, and verify guest identification to ensure compliance with minimum age requirements
  • assist with recording guest orders and entering them into the kitchen through the POS system
  • monitor guest tables to respond to additional requests and determine when meals are completed
  • calculate meal totals, present checks to guests, process payments, and provide change when necessary
  • ensure tableware and linens are replaced and maintained as needed throughout service
  • recommend menu items, describe ingredients, and explain preparation methods to enhance the guest dining experience
  • supervise the setup of banquet functions including linens, dishware, glassware, and silverware
  • maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance
  • assure that the location equipment is operable and clean prior to the start of the event
  • responsible for recognizing guests that are visibly intoxicated and taking action to cut off alcohol to such individuals
  • enforce all Ovations policies and procedures
  • assist management team with projects including training, inventory, and special events
  • all other duties as assigned by the managers and supervisors
