Located at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, Oak View Group is currently seeking an Executive Sous Chef for a part-time position. This role offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $23.00 to $29.00 and includes access to valuable benefits such as a 401(k) Savings Plan and matching contributions. The position is regular part-time and will remain open until October 16, 2026.
The Executive Sous Chef is a critical leadership role responsible for managing the public food culinary team and overseeing daily kitchen operations to ensure they align with OVG's high standards and objectives. This position entails supporting event planning, scheduling kitchen staff, managing food preparation and production, exercising food cost control, and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation policies. The Executive Sous Chef also directly supervises employee training, kitchen safety, cleaning standards, and overall operational efficiency.
In this role, you will work closely with the Executive Chef and General Manager to drive kitchen performance, enhance guest satisfaction, and maintain profitability. You will be instrumental in developing menus, maintaining quality, consistency, and style, and ensuring all food served meets OVG's exacting standards. Additionally, you will oversee staff scheduling, cross-training initiatives, and employee development to optimize labor costs and promote a positive workplace culture.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining kitchen equipment readiness, supporting catered services, and enforcing sanitation, safety, and employment regulations. You will be expected to lead with a strong example by mentoring culinary staff, resolving performance issues, fostering teamwork, and encouraging staff empowerment. This position demands flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and extended hours as needed.

Job Requirements
- Must have 3-5 years of kitchen management experience in a full-service restaurant or events venue
- Must demonstrate technical proficiency in food preparation methods
- Must be able to positively interact with diverse personalities including co-workers and guests
- Must have proven ability to develop staff via training and coaching
- Must be able to support others in developing job skills
- Must possess strong delegation skills
- Must show proven problem-solving abilities
- Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
- Must work independently and contribute to a team
- Must be flexible to work varied schedules including nights and weekends
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain national sanitation certification

Job Duties
- Ensures budgeted food percentages are achieved through effective control measures including portion controls and inventory rotation
- Controls labor costs through effective scheduling and cross-training of kitchen staff
- Ensures purchasing and preparation meet quality and consistency standards

- Monitors food preparation and serving to meet recipe and sanitary standards
- Supervises line setup, prep, and breakdown activities
