Job Description
Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, specializing in venue development, management, and hospitality. Established in 2015, OVG has quickly become a top-tier company in the live event industry, operating a diverse portfolio of world-class venues across four continents. Their expertise spans arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions. Oak View Group is known for delivering exceptional experiences by combining innovative venue operations with outstanding customer service and state-of-the-art facilities. The company’s commitment to excellence and technology-driven services creates dynamic environments for fans, artists, and event organizers alike.
One of the premier venues managed by OVG is Chartway Arena, located on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. This 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena opened in 2002 and has earned its reputation as a leading mid-sized collegiate venue in the United States. Chartway Arena hosts a wide variety of events, including Old Dominion Monarch men’s and women’s basketball games, concerts, family shows, and other entertainment attractions that serve the Hampton Roads community and beyond. The arena’s modern amenities and professional staff make it a top destination for sports and entertainment.
The Event Staff position at Chartway Arena offers an exciting opportunity for part-time work with a focus on delivering an outstanding fan experience. This role is essential to maintaining a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable environment for all guests attending events hosted at the arena. Event Staff members act as the frontline representatives of both Chartway Arena and Oak View Group, greeting fans upon entry, verifying tickets, and assisting patrons throughout the venue. They ensure that guests receive clear directions and support from the moment they arrive until they exit the facility.
The job requires a personable and approachable individual who thrives in dynamic and sometimes fast-paced situations. Flexibility is a critical component of this role, as shifts are scheduled during evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the event calendar. The position pays an hourly wage of $15.00 and includes benefits for part-time employees such as access to a 401(k) savings plan with matching contributions. This employment opportunity remains open until September 4, 2026, allowing interested candidates ample time to apply.
Event Staff members play a vital role in crowd management, ensuring the smooth flow of foot traffic and emergency preparedness awareness. Responsibilities extend to enforcing arena policies and providing superior hospitality before, during, and after events. The role also involves working within the unique environment of an arena—sometimes dealing with loud noises, low light, and prolonged periods of standing or sitting. Customer service excellence and safety awareness are paramount, requiring employees to be attentive to guests’ needs and any potential hazards.
Joining the Oak View Group team at Chartway Arena means becoming part of a diverse and inclusive workforce dedicated to innovation and excellence. The company promotes an inclusive culture that celebrates different backgrounds and perspectives, which fuels creativity and outstanding service. OVG is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fair hiring practices without discrimination against any protected class. Prospective candidates can expect to work in a positive and respectful environment where teamwork and hospitality are emphasized.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with people, have a friendly and positive attitude, and desire to gain valuable experience in event management and live entertainment. Whether you are a student, part-time worker, or someone seeking new opportunities in the customer service or event management fields, the Event Staff role at Chartway Arena offers a rewarding experience in one of the country’s most respected collegiate venues.
